The Flemish cultural sector wants the number of spectators for cultural events to be determined according to the venue’s capacity, the 'culture crisis cell' reports on Monday.
The sector will consult with the Cabinet of Flemish Minister of Culture Jan Jambon on Tuesday afternoon.
Currently a maximum of 100 visitors are allowed at cultural events indoors. Outdoors, the limit is two hundred people. But the culture sector calls these limits "not workable". Jambon is therefore being asked to relax the regulation, but in a safe way.

Specifically, the cultural sector wants the maximum number of spectators to be determined according to the location of the event. "There is of course a big difference between a hundred people in the Sports Palace (a large venue in Antwerp) and a hundred people in a small club," said musician Tom Kestens.
"We want to make adjustments to the framework that are more useful to us. We have protocols ready that allow us to work 'coronaproof' according to capacity."
Kestens assures that this can be done safely. "We will never take risks as a sector," he said. "There are currently zero corona outbreaks in Belgium to be brought back to cultural activities. There's a reason for that."
The representatives of the cultural sector hope that the subject will be put on the agenda of the next National Security Council, which will take place on Thursday. In addition, during Tuesday's consultations, the extension of support measures will be requested, among other things.
The culture crisis cell includes the Live Sector Consultation, the Consultation of Arts Organisations (oKo) and the Artist Coalition.
