Two of Team Fouad Ahidar's candidates elected in the City of Brussels on Sunday have announced that they are leaving the party to sit on as independents.

Kader Sati and Yousra Nouar were elected in the City of Brussels following local elections on Sunday 13 October. They are now leaving the party due to a disagreement with list leader Moura Maimouni over values.

"We thank Fouad Ahidar for his trust and still consider him a respectable person, but in recent weeks and throughout the entire electoral campaign, it became clear that we do not share the same values as our list leader in Brussels," they stated in a press release seen by Belga News Agency.

They called for the party's political project to be "collective" rather than focused on one person. "We are not pawns, we also deserve respect," they said.

To the two politicians, this means working "for the wellbeing of the population, which should take precedence over scripted sketches that ridicule politics and our city."

They both intend to sit as independents to "positively impact our population" and affirmed their belief in a progressive project, their values and their commitment to assisting any citizen who wants a more humane and united city.
