A woman in her sixties was transferred to the Military Hospital on Friday afternoon after being burned in a kitchen fire in her Etterbeek apartment.
The fire broke out around 17:00 on the seventh floor of a building on Rue Mont du Chêne, just next to Etterbeek's maison communale. Fire brigade spokesperson Walter Derieuw said the victim's fryer had caught fire.
The woman suffered burns on her face, abdomen and arms and was immediately taken to the Military Hospital by emergency medical services. Her apartment is now uninhabitable. Other residents evacuated the building but no-one else was harmed.

Derieuw has warned Brussels residents to avoid using electrical appliances equipped with thermostats to avoid overheating.
"In case of a fire, water should never be used to extinguish an oil fire," he said.
In such situations, it is recommended to cut off the power source, smother the flames with a fire blanket or lid, leave the room and close the door behind you and call emergency services at 112.
"Above all, do not move the fryer," Derieuw added.
