Dutch fitness chain Basic-Fit, also operating in Belgium, aims to adopt a franchise model starting next year.

The publicly traded company confirmed the news on Friday while publishing its provisional results. Their target is to open gyms in new countries by 2025.

The franchise model will allow independent operators to use the Basic-Fit brand in exchange for a fee. According to Basic-Fit, this approach is cost-effective and opens up opportunities for expansion into other countries.

Basic-Fit is already in talks with potential investors interested in these franchises. The first gyms under this model could open in 2025. The specific new countries have not been disclosed. Currently, the group operates in six countries, with a total of 1,570 gyms, including 229 in Belgium.

Memberships will also undergo changes in the coming months, according to Basic-Fit’s statement. Membership fees will shift to a weekly model instead of a monthly one. This new pricing was introduced in France on 1 October, with a standard membership set at €4.99 per week, compared to the previous €19.99 every four weeks.
