A suspicious package containing an unknown powder arrived at a company in Zaventem on Wednesday, according to a report in Het Nieuwsblad, confirmed by emergency services.
The package was discovered around 11:00 a.m. among the mail and looked like a regular parcel. Upon opening it, an employee found a plastic casing with an unknown substance. The company immediately alerted the emergency services.
Local police, the West Flemish Brabant fire brigade, and Civil Protection responded promptly. Five employees working in the area where the package was found were evacuated, and two who came into contact with it were quarantined for some time.
Civil Protection took the package for further investigation, while the room where it was found was cleaned. The Halle-Vilvoorde Public Prosecutor’s Office has been notified and has opened an investigation.
