Amazon Prime Video's streaming platform will remain ad-free in Belgium for the time being, Eva Faict, the US giant's representative in Belgium, said on Thursday.
The price of Prime subscriptions is not expected to rise in the near future either, Faict said.
Last week, Amazon announced that, from 2025, series and films broadcast on Prime Video would contain "limited advertising" by default in The Netherlands.
The measure is necessary "to continue investing in interesting content," the company said. Those wishing to continue using the ad-free platform would therefore have to pay a few extra euros each month, it added.
In Belgium, Prime Video remains ad-free for the time being, Ms. Faict pointed out. The price of the Amazon Prime subscription also remains unchanged for the time being, at the launch price of €2.99 per month.
This compares with a monthly subscription fee of €4.99 in the Netherlands, €6.99 in France and €8.99 in Germany. In the USA, Amazon even charges $14.99 (€13.8) per month.
In these countries, Prime includes more services than in Belgium. Aside from streamed films and series, the Belgian subscription only includes free delivery of orders from Amazon's online store, free online photo storage and certain Prime Gaming benefits.
Elsewhere, Prime also includes the Amazon Music streaming service and access to the Prime Reading catalogue of e-books.
There are no plans for these additional services to arrive in Belgium in the near future.
"Above all, we are focused on perfecting the Prime brand, with strong delivery and entertainment benefits, through our streaming service," Ms. Faict explained.
