Belgian toy retailer ToyChamp is set to acquire its Dutch counterpart Intertoys, it was confirmed on Monday.
Mirage Retail Group, the current owner of Intertoys, announced the deal which involves the acquisition of 95.1% of Intertoys BV's shares. The sale price was not disclosed.
The acquisition has been submitted to the Netherlands' competition regulator (the Authority for Consumers and Markets) for approval and is expected to be finalised in the last quarter of 2024.
Both brands will continue to operate independently. Intertoys’ management team will remain unchanged and will "continue to focus on executing the existing business plan," according to Mirage Retail Group.
Founded in 1976, Intertoys is the largest toy store chain in the Netherlands with over 200 branches.
ToyChamp, a family business established in 2001 by the Nolmans brothers, owns 41 toy stores, including 15 in Belgium (only in Flanders) and 26 in the Netherlands. ToyChamp is also the majority shareholder of the toy store chain DreamLand, after acquiring a 75% stake in the business from Colruyt last year.
