The Indictments Division decided on Thursday to remand in custody the parents of a five-month-old baby found dead in Ghent.
The Council Chamber had initially ruled in favour of conditional release, but the public prosecutor appealed.
After the baby was found dead in the family flat, a coroner was appointed to clarify the circumstances of his death. The infant's 55-year-old father and 41-year-old mother were arrested and brought before the Ghent examining magistrate, who issued an arrest warrant for manslaughter.
The couple appeared on 18 October before the Ghent court.
At the time, the Council Chamber ruled in favour of conditional release, but the public prosecutor appealed.
The Indictment Division finally decided on Thursday to keep the parents in prison. The defence regretted this decision, but said it was awaiting further investigations.
The couple will appear again in a month's time before the Council Chamber to submit a new application for conditional release.
