A 29-year-old prison fugitive crashed into two parked vehicles in Antwerp on Saturday morning, and was later apprehended by police.
According to police officers at the scene, the man appeared to have been drinking. Further checks showed that he did not have a valid driving licence and was registered as an escaped prisoner.
The accident occurred around 16:00. Both cars were heavily damaged due to the impact. The driver fled towards Vestpark after the crash but was quickly spotted and apprehended by a police patrol on Eric Sasselaan.
The 29-year-old suspect resisted arrest and attempted to flee again. According to the police, he showed signs of intoxication but refused to take the mandatory breath and saliva tests. The vehicles were towed, and the involved owners were informed.
