An explosive device was detonated in front of a home on Van Duyststraat in Antwerp’s Deurne District on Monday morning. The front door was damaged, but no injuries were reported.
A resident of the targeted house alerted the police. “He reported an explosion at his door, with smoke and the smell of burning,” police spokesman Wouter Bruyns said.
The fire brigade also rushed to the scene due to the presence of smoke and the smell of burning.
Two people inhaled smoke and received medical assistance.
Police are investigating the incident and will review any useful CCTV footage.
It is not yet clear whether the explosion is linked to a drug-related attack, something not uncommon in Antwerp.
