After a short winter interlude that blanketed the country with snow, temperatures are set to rise gradually, reaching up to 18°C by Sunday, according to the Royal Meteorological Institute.
Belgian residents looking forward to sledging and skiing this weekend might be disappointed. The few centimetres of snow that fell last night are not expected to withstand the rising temperatures in the coming days.
The peak will be Sunday, which will see varying to abundant cloud cover, primarily with high and mid-level clouds, with possible showers in the south in the morning. However, a strong southern wind will bring very mild air, pushing maximum temperatures between 13°C and 18°C. Brussels is expecting to be on the warmer side, with forecasted lows of 14°C and a maximum temperature of 18°C.
The cold will slowly begin to subside from Friday. Maximum temperatures should rise above zero across the country, ranging from 0°C in Haute Ardenne to 7°C at the coast. Some showers, possibly wintry, are not ruled out.
On Saturday, temperatures will continue to increase, reaching between 2°C and 7°C in the afternoon. They will rise further in the evening and overnight. The eastern half of the country will see clearings and increasing high clouds in the morning.
Freezing fog could form in the Ardennes. In the west, cloud cover will be abundant. By afternoon, the sky will be cloudy across the country, with light rain potentially affecting the northwest.
