Flemish MP Manu Diericx (N-VA) believes that there should be more focus on a "Flanders-wide offering" for fans of metal, punk, and hardcore in the region’s cultural policy.

On Thursday, Minister of Culture Caroline Gennez outlined the main aspects of her future cultural policy in the responsible committee. Afterwards, regional MPs had the opportunity to ask questions to the minister.

Diericx came prepared with a wide range of questions, from the announced evaluation of the leisure and cultural card, UiTPAS, to the pilot project on creating multi-purpose spaces for locals, and future subsidy policies.

The new MP from East Flanders also had some more personal and less obvious questions and remarks for the minister.

Diericx supports the minister’s plans to promote diversity and a varied cultural offering: “I have quite distinct musical tastes. I would like to advocate for a Flanders-wide offering of metal music, punk music, and hardcore music. These are currently underserved audiences,” said Diericx.

This statement reflects the promises in both the coalition agreement and the policy note to pay more attention to “underserved audiences, who currently feel insufficiently involved.”
