One quarter of employees in Belgium have already received a bonus in 2024.
The number of Belgian workers who have already received a bonus this year is in line with trends in previous years. However, there has been a significant increase in the average bonus amount, according to human resources services provider Acerta Consult.
The average amount has increased by 5.5% this year, grossing at €6,327 compared to €6,000 in 2023.
One in ten manual workers have received a bonus, averaging at €1,138 compared to €1,250 last year.
Collective bonus most common
Acerta concluded that the most common bonus (13.8% of employees) remains the 'CCT 90', a one-off bonus, based on data collected from 574,000 workers in over 44,000 private companies. This bonus is based on performance and applies to the entire company or a specific division, depending on whether pre-defined objectives have been met.
A second collective bonus – the 'profit-sharing' bonus – is less popular and was granted to just under 2% of employees. This bonus depends on the company's annual results and can only be awarded in the event of a profit.
The 'warrant' is the most common type of individual bonus and was awarded to just over 7% of employees in 2024, with an average amount of €12,652 gross. The second type of individual bonus, the 'gross' bonus, applied to just 5.1% of employees in the first ten months of the year, with an average amount of €5,381 gross.
