Police discovered heavy firearms in a taxi in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean on Wednesday.
The Brussels-West police zone performed a check on a taxi on Mariemont Quay in Molenbeek on Wednesday. In one vehicle, they discovered a submachine gun, a revolver fitted with a silencer and ammunition.
The checks are part of a broader crackdown on crime in the wake of recent shootings in the Brussels-Capital Region (there have been a record-breaking 74 this year).
During the same check, police intercepted a car carrying four people. They were taken in for questioning and later handed over to the Brussels Public Prosecutor's Office on the same day.
An investigating judge took over the case and ordered an arrest warrant for three of the four suspects.
