Lorry injures at least 19 people on German motorway

A lorry collided with around fifty cars while zigzagging at high speed on the busy A46 and A1 motorways in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, on Saturday evening.

Nineteen people were injured, eight of them seriously.

The lorry came to a stop after a final collision on the A1, blocking the motorway.

Throughout the chaotic drive, motorists were warned via radio to leave the motorway immediately, but many could not do so in time.

The lorry driver, a man in his thirties, has been arrested.

He has been hospitalised while the investigation continues.
