The far-right party Rassemblement National (RN) in France is expected to file a motion of no confidence against the French government, according to party president Jordan Bardella speaking on RTL.

The primary issue for the far-right RN is the indexing of pensions. "It’s a done deal. We will disapprove of the government unless Barnier changes his mind," Bardella stated.

French Prime Minister Michel Barnier is struggling to secure a majority for his budget. With his minority cabinet, Barnier’s government could pass the budget through Article 49.3 of the constitution, bypassing parliament.

However, in that case, RN and the left-wing opposition would submit a motion of no confidence that could topple the French government. The vote on the motion could happen on Wednesday or Thursday.

"Barnier has until 15:00 on Monday afternoon to reconsider. But I have little hope that will happen," Bardella said. RN will hold an internal vote on the current budget proposal on Monday afternoon. According to RN, the proposal lacks the indexing of pensions.

France is in a difficult financial situation. The government aims to save €60 billion euros but its future remains uncertain. The political instability caught the attention of financial markets two weeks ago.
