Remco Evenepoel suffered a crash during training on Thursday morning and was taken to the hospital immediately after the accident.
Patrick Lefevere, head of his team Soudal Quick-Step, confirmed the information to Belga News Agency. The circumstances of the crash are still unclear but Lefevere says Evenepoel collided with a car door that suddenly opened.
Several media outlets report that the incident occurred near his home in Oetingen, within the Gooik municipality in Flemish Brabant (20 km southwest of Brussels). Evenepoel reportedly collided with a door of a Bpost company vehicle.
Bpost has confirmed the incident and company spokesperson Mathieu Goedefroy told Belga News Agency: "We deeply regret what happened and will fully cooperate with the investigation."
Photos on social media show the double Olympic champion conscious and sitting on a stretcher. Emergency services arrived at the scene and transferred him to the Erasme Hospital in Anderlecht.
"We cannot comment on the precise circumstances of the accident," Goedefroy added. "Both Bpost and the postwoman involved will fully cooperate with the investigation. The postwoman is very distressed. This is a very unfortunate incident and we sincerely hope the great cycling champion Remco Evenepoel has not sustained any serious injuries."
From the Remco Evenepoel crash place, Remco was unable to avoid an opening car door from the postal vehicle and the doctors said it can be broken shoulder and broken wrist.

Evenepoel is currently Belgium's most distinguished cyclist and is a national personality having won both the Olympic road race and the time trial events in Paris this summer. On top of this, the 24 year-old has two World Champion titles to his name.
Now in the off-season, Evenepoel was in November crowned the best Belgian cyclist of the season and attended the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Qatar as a guest of the Alpine team. Prior to that, he was seen on the beach with his team and at the Anderlecht match in the Europa League. Evenepoel had initially pursued football and played for the Anderlecht academy before transitioning to cycling.
