IKEA has introduced pick-up lockers at external sites for the first time, the Swedish furniture giant announced on Wednesday.
Belgium is the second country in the world, after the United Kingdom, to benefit from this pilot project.
Since late 2023, IKEA's Belgian branch has already installed lockers near its stores in Ghent, Hasselt, Wilrijk, and Zaventem, allowing around 21,000 customers to pick up their online orders.
Now, IKEA has set up lockers at external sites which are not near their stores. The new lockers have been installed in Ternat, Flemish Brabant, at The Leaf Shopping site, commercial zone is located near the E40 motorway between Ghent and Brussels. This is where IKEA opened its very first Belgian store 40 years ago.
Customers can collect their orders at their convenience between 06:00 and 22:00. The service is offered at a price of €9.99. The initiative will be expanded to other external sites based on the performance of this pilot in Ternat.
The most popular times to use these lockers are before store opening hours (between 06:00 and 10:00) and on Sundays. In the coming months, lockers will also be installed near the stores in Anderlecht, Mons, Liège and Arlon.
