The Chinese market accounted for 21% of the value added by the European automotive industry intended for export in 2022.
According to Eurostat data, it surpassed the United States (20%), historically Europe's main trading partner, and the United Kingdom (13%). The Chinese share has nearly doubled since 2010, rising from 12% to 21%.
The total value added by the European automotive industry for non-European consumers reached €78.9 billion in 2022. This marks a 54% increase since 2010 but a 7% decrease compared to 2015.
Conversely, the value added by non-European automotive industries for the EU market was €34.6 billion in 2022. This represents a 47% increase since 2015 and a 124% increase since 2010.
Chinese producers are the largest contributors to this value added (16%), followed by the Japanese (15%) and South Koreans (10%). The Chinese share grew significantly from 9% in 2010 to 16% in 2022.
