The socialist list (PS-Vooruit) and the Belgian Workers' Party (PTB/PVDA) have found a third partner to secure a more comfortable majority: the Molenbeek Autrement list of Ahmed El Khannouss.

Mayor Catherine Moureaux (PS) confirmed the information on Thursday morning to Belga. The new three-party majority will be presented on Friday morning at the town hall.

On 13 October, the socialist list won 12 seats, closely followed by PTB with 11 seats. An alliance between these two left-wing forces quickly took shape but only secured a narrow majority of 23 out of 45 seats.

Discussions were initiated to broaden the coalition, involving Team Fouad Ahidar (7 seats) and Molenbeek Autrement (4 seats). Ultimately, the latter list will join the majority.

Molenbeek Autrement was led in the elections by former Molenbeek councillor and Brussels deputy Ahmed El Khannouss, who was pushed out of Les Engagés in October 2022.

Despite his known political rivalry with Catherine Moureaux, El Khannouss expressed a shared commitment to serving the Molenbeek population and described "positive discussions" with the mayor’s list.
