A fire broke out early Saturday morning around 07:00 at the CometSambre company located in Obourg (Mons).
Emergency services quickly arrived at the scene. Authorities in Mons reported on social media that there were no casualties.
Residents of Saint-Denis, Obourg, and the surrounding areas were advised to keep doors and windows closed to avoid potential odour-related issues while the smoke dissipated.
According to local media, CometSambre stated that the Obourg plant does not operate on weekends, meaning no staff were present. The fire started in the metal waste recycling plant’s waste storage area and was quickly detected by surveillance cameras.
Firefighters from Mons contained the blaze and left the site just before 14:00. The location will remain under surveillance until Monday.
