King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands is "in shock" following the explosion that killed at least six people in The Hague on Saturday morning.
"My legs are shaking," the King said after a visit to the Mariahoeve district on Monday morning. He and his wife Queen Máxima visited the site of the explosion that killed at least six people on Saturday.
The royal couple later stopped at the Lichtpuntjes family centre nearby. "The humanity after such a disaster gives an incredible amount of strength," the King said following conversations with emergency responders and affected residents.
He praised the efforts of both the emergency responders and residents, adding that the consequences of the explosion "defied all imagination."
Two explosions occurred in quick succession early on Saturday morning, destroying five apartments. The cause of the explosions remains unknown. Police are appealing for witnesses, and emergency services are continuing to search the rubble to rescue people who are trapped.
City Mayor Jan Van Zanen has warned residents and family members to prepare for the "worst case scenario."
