To mark the (almost) end of the year, Google revealed in its early edition of 'Year in searches' the trending topics people in Belgium looked for in 2024.

The list is based on the most trending searches, meaning the searches that had the highest spike in people googling them compared to the previous year.

These trends were divided into categories including top celebrities, musicians, sports events, and questions. For searched queries, Google made a distinction between French and Dutch trending searches.

Belgian politicians took the top spots on the list of Famous Belgians. The first spot was taken by outgoing Deputy Prime Minister Petra De Sutter. She was followed by Melissa Depraetere, the Vice-Minister-President of the Flemish Government. The third place was taken by Belgium's potential next Prime Minister, Bart de Wever.

When it came to entertainment, Belgians' interests were rather diverse. Leading the top 10 list of film and TV shows was Beetlejuice, Saltburn, Ex on the Beach, Oppenheimer, and Kamp Waes. The top musicians searched for included Joost Klein, Kendji Girac, Raven van Dorst, and One Direction.

"Why were cornflakes invented?" is a question that plagued the minds of both French and Dutch-speaking Belgians. While the origin of the cereal was the most popular question searched for Dutch speakers, it only made it to the 4th spot on the list of French speakers. The top 'why' question for the French speakers was 'why dissolve the National Assembly?'

The top 'how' question for both Dutch and French speakers was 'how to vote?'. Meanwhile the top 'what' question was 'what if you don't vote?' for Dutch searches and 'What is a landscape decree?' for French searches.

Overall, the top general searches included the Euro, CAN, Temu, Joost Klein, and the Olympic Games.
