The Tupperware factory in Aalst is set to close on 8 January, according to various union sources.
The factory employs 225 people but has faced financial difficulties in recent times. Earlier this year, the international parent company was taken over by creditors Stonehill Capital Management Partners and Alden Global Capital.
Since the takeover, the impact on the Belgian branch had been unclear. In its Aalst plant, Tupperware operates a factory and some support services.
The local management of the American multinational typically does not speak to the press, and the international headquarters have also been unavailable for comment.
However, unions are in regular contact with the factory manager, and a special works council meeting was held on Thursday. It was during this meeting that the news of the impending closure was disclosed.
