The German Football League (DFL) has requested that clubs observe a minute's silence before the start of Bundesliga and second division matches this weekend in tribute to the victims of the Magdeburg Christmas market attack on Friday evening.

Players will also wear black armbands as a mark of respect.

Five people were killed and around 200 were injured after a man drove into a Christmas market in the city of Magdeburg, located in Eastern Germany.

Magdeburg Football Club expressed shock over the attack, which took place while they were securing a 5-2 victory against Fortuna Düsseldorf in a second division match. Supporters from both sides fell silent due to the incident.

"We are still shocked and we are mourning the victims of the terrible attack at the Magdeburg Christmas market. Our thoughts are also with the many injured, as well as all the families affected and their loved ones," the club stated on Saturday.
