The police in the German port city of Bremerhaven arrested a man on Sunday evening who had threatened to commit criminal acts at the local market, 60 km from Bremen in northern Germany.

The suspect made his threats in a video posted on the social media platform TikTok.

Authorities identified the suspect "very quickly" after the video was uploaded and placed him in custody.

They have not disclosed further details about the individual or the nature of the threats. However, they have assured the public that there is no ongoing danger.

The news comes just days after a tragic event in Germany, where a 50-year-old man of Saudi origin in a SUV ploughed into a crowd at the Christmas market in Magdeburg on Friday evening, killing five people, including a nine-year-old child, and injuring hundreds more. The death toll may rise as at least 40 people are in critical condition.

Saudi intelligence had warned their German counterparts about the suspected perpetrator a year ago. They cited a tweet where he threatened Germany with a "price" to pay for its treatment of Saudi refugees. Despite the warning, no action was taken, and the man increasingly engaged in conspiratorial and hostile rhetoric.
