A TUI-operated aircraft was struck by lightning shortly after departing from Brussels Airport in Zaventem on Sunday and was forced to return.
The flight, which was en route to the Egyptian resort town of Hurghada, had its journey cut short. Shortly after takeoff, the plane was hit by lightning and made a turn back to the airport.
“We are required to conduct checks in such cases,” explained Piet Demeyere, spokesperson for TUI Belgium. To avoid unnecessary waiting for passengers, the travel company arranged for an overnight hotel stay.
Travellers will be able to board a new flight to Hurghada on Monday.
