Two minors suspected of throwing illegal Cobra fireworks into a house on Rue Van Artevelde in Brussels were detained on 20 December by the Brussels-Capital Ixelles police zone.

The incident, which took place on 5 November, severely injured a young girl who was inside the house. The girl lost several fingers as she tried to throw the explosive outside.

"The investigation identified two minor boys," police stated. “They were questioned following searches and have been handed over to the prosecutor, who appointed a juvenile judge. Both suspects have been placed in a Public Institution for Youth Protection."

The Brussels-Capital Ixelles police zone emphasised once again, especially during this end-of-year period, that fireworks are currently banned throughout the Brussels Region and handling such pyrotechnics remains extremely dangerous.
