Several individuals shot fireworks at the police in Neder-Over-Heembeek early on Sunday morning.
The incident occurred at around 01:35 in the Versailles neighbourhood of Neder-Over-Heembeek and the assailants' identities remain unknown. The news was first reported by Bruzz and has since been confirmed by the Brussels-Ixelles police zone.
"Two patrol vehicles were targeted with fireworks in the Versailles district," said police spokesperson Ilse Van de Keere. "Thankfully, there were no injuries."
No damage was caused to the vehicles and the suspects remain at large. No arrests have been made so far.
On Saturday, the police and fire service urged the public to treat emergency and safety services with respect ahead of New Year's Eve celebrations.
