Over €615,000 donated to victims of Christmas market attack in Germany

Over 5,600 separate donations have raised over €615,00o for the victims and families affected by the attack at the Magdeburg Christmas market in Germany.

Five people were killed and 235 more were injured when a car crashed into the Magdeburg Christmas market in East Germany on 20 December. Since then, over €615,000 has been raised in support of the victims and their families.

Mayor of Magdeburg Simone Borris described the public's willingness to donate as "impressive".

"My thoughts are with the five dead, the injured and their families," she said. "These donations show that our city stands together, providing us with strength and confidence for the future."

A 50-year-old man, a doctor from Saudi Arabia, has been arrested in connection with the incident.

The Magdeburg Christmas market was scheduled to be open until Sunday but was dismantled on Friday.
