The number of pubs operating in England and Wales continues to decline.

This year alone, 412 establishments have closed their doors, according to real estate consultancy firm Altus Group on Monday.

The number of pubs has been dwindling across the country for several decades. However, the Covid-19 pandemic followed by the energy crisis has added extra pressure on these drinking establishments.

Rising costs and reduced consumer demand create a challenging environment for British pub owners.

Since 2020, over 2,000 pubs have shut down, bringing the total number of establishments to below 39,000.

The sector is urging the government to take action to revitalise the hospitality industry.
