Wildfires in California in the southwest USA have devastated the famous Sunset Boulevard, reports the Los Angeles Times.
The iconic Hollywood sign is also under threat, according to various American media. The Palisades fire has left the major artery connecting downtown Los Angeles to Hollywood in ruins.
Numerous buildings along the boulevard, renowned for its shops and nightclubs, have been destroyed.
The Los Angeles Times described the scene as resembling the aftermath of a bomb explosion, leaving only plumes of smoke and an almost lunar landscape. Tens of thousands of residents have been evacuated from the area. Reports of looting have already surfaced.
California Governor Gavin Newsom has mobilised over 7,500 firefighters and first responders to combat the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles, he announced on Thursday.
"California has thousands of people on the ground to fight the fires. The state is leaving no stone unturned to protect Californian communities," said Governor Newsom.
