Rubbish collection is likely to be disrupted on Monday due to the national strike.

Trade unions are holding a national demonstration on Monday 13 January to protest against the next governments' cuts to pensions. Public transport services in Brussels will be affected and some schools will go without teachers as education employees join in the action.

The participation of rubbish collectors in the demonstration means that rubbish collection will likely be disrupted too, Bruxelles-Propreté (the Brussels agency responsible for public cleaning) announced on Thursday.

This may affect waste collection rounds, the agency warned. Nevertheless, residents and businesses in impacted areas are still advised to put out their rubbish according to the normal schedule.

If the bags are not collected, it is recommended to leave them in front of the residence, since catch-up rounds will be organised "depending on available human resources".

Other services may also be affected. This includes container waste collections from businesses and apartment complexes, such as container waste collections from businesses and residents of apartment buildings, Recyparks (the dump), chemical waste collection and home collections of bulky items.
