For the first time ever, the number of passenger cars in Belgium has surpassed six million, announced the Belgian Automobile Federation (FEBIAC) on Friday at the start of the Brussels Motor Show.
There are precisely 6,008,569 cars on Belgian roads – a 0.75% increase from the previous year according to the annual count conducted on 31 December.
The Belgian car fleet consists of 4,606,299 privately registered vehicles (76.7% of the total) and 1,402,270 vehicles registered to businesses or professionals (23.3%).
Petrol-powered cars make up the majority with 3,312,696 vehicles (55.1%). Diesel engines account for 30.1% with 1,807,983 vehicles. Fully electric cars now make up 5.1% of the fleet, amounting to 308,158 vehicles.
