Meetings held on Friday between trade unions and the management of the Belgian national post service (bpost) failed to achieve significant progress on the reorganisation of postmen’s routes, according to Stéphane Daussaint, General Secretary of CSC Transcom Post Union.

As a result, the ongoing strike in eight postal distribution centres in Wallonia is expected to continue.

“The company proposed holding discussions at the beginning of next week, likely on Monday,” Daussaint said. “At this point, there is no real progress. We will inform the affected sites, and it is probable that the current actions will continue.”

In Hainaut, the distribution centres in Mons, Tournai, and Péruwelz have been on strike since Wednesday and remain shut down. The situation is similar in Visé, Liège Province, where postal workers also walked out on Wednesday.

In Liège, a reorganisation plan presented on Friday morning sparked discontent among the workers. Upon learning that 17 services would be cut and redistributed among other existing routes, around 200 postal workers in the city decided to strike.

Namur is also affected by the strike, as are the centres in Braine-l’Alleud and Nivelles in Walloon Brabant.

These actions are expected to delay the delivery of letters and parcels this season.
