Danish director Lars von Trier, who suffers from Parkinson’s disease, has been admitted to a care facility, his production company Zentropa announced on Wednesday.

“Lars is doing well under the circumstances,” Zentropa said in a brief statement.

Von Trier (68), known as the 'enfant terrible' of Scandinavian cinema, revealed in 2022 that he had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.

In September 2024, it was revealed that he was working on a new film with the tentative title ‘After.’ The future of this project remains unclear.

Von Trier is famous for films such as ‘Dogville’, ‘Melancholia’, and ‘Dancer in the Dark’, and he is known for making movies that are challenging, provocative, and sometimes shocking. A controversial comment about Adolf Hitler at the Cannes Film Festival in 2011 earned him a seven-year ban from the event.

His latest film to date, ‘The House That Jack Built,’ was released in 2018.

Despite undergoing treatment for Parkinson’s, von Trier released the mini-horror series 'Riget Exodus' in 2022. This was a continuation of the two 'Riget' series from the 1990s.
