A grenade explosion in a bar in the French city of Grenoble injured around a dozen people on Wednesday evening. Authorities do not believe the incident is a terror attack.
Two victims were severely injured but are not in critical condition, according to prosecutor François Touret de Coucy.
"A person entered the café, threw a grenade, and fled," Touret de Coucy said at the scene. The perpetrator reportedly stayed silent while launching the explosive. The motive for the attack remains unclear.
"We can rule out a pure terrorist attack. There is nothing to suggest this is related to terrorism."
It is possible the incident was related to a drug feud. "There are indications the individual was armed with a Kalashnikov, but this is yet to be confirmed. It is uncertain whether the Kalashnikov was used. As far as we know, the injuries and damage were caused by the grenade explosion," he said.
According to the prosecutor, "many people" were present in the bar on Wednesday evening. The explosion occurred shortly after 20:00 in the Village Olympique neighbourhood in the south of the city.
