A man was killed at around 21:30 on Saturday evening at Clemenceau station. This is the latest in a spate of deadly shootings in the Brussels municipality of Anderlecht, Belga News Agency reports. Several metro stations have been closed as a result.
The man was reportedly shot with a military-style weapon according to Belgian newspaper La Libre. The suspect died in the station entrance, on Chaussée de Mons. The publication alleges that police were just metres away at the time of the shooting. They also state that the victim was a drug dealer.
Local police and investigators are currently on the scene, and the investigation has been handed over to the Federal Police. The perpetrators are being actively sought.
It is likely that this latest shooting is linked to an ongoing drug war which has left at least one dead and three injured.
In the interest of the ongoing investigation, the Brussels Public Prosecutor's Office has stated that it will not make any further comments on the situation. Minister of the Interior and Security Bernard Quintin visited the scene of the crime. "It is clear that we need to take further strict measures," he told Flemish broadcaster VRT.

The mayor of Anderlecht, Fabrice Cumps, commented that the shooting had occurred "despite a reinforced police presence 70 metres away," according to Het Nieuwsblad. "This is a sign that these villains won't stop for anything. We must continue to occupy this site, but that's not enough. We need to step up judicial investigations to dismantle the networks and those who pull the strings."
Brussels metro lines 1 and 5 have been closed between Gare de l'Ouest and Veeweyde station by order of the police. The lines 2 and 6 have also been closed between Porte de Hal and Gare de L'Ouest. The 81 tram has also been stopped between Gare du Midi and Marius Renard. Several bus lines have also been deviated.
