French President Emmanuel Macron will convene key European leaders on Monday to discuss European security amid escalating tensions.
The ongoing conflict between the United States and the European Union stems from negotiations with Russia regarding the war in Ukraine. The “working meeting” will be held in Paris, as announced by French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot in a Sunday radio announcement.
Leaders will discuss US President Donald Trump’s proposals for ending the conflict in Ukraine. The European Union is reportedly excluded from direct participation in the peace talks with Russia and Ukraine.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof, and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk are expected to attend. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Antonio Costa have also been invited.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte will join the discussions.
It remains unclear whether Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever will receive an invitation.
