A new stop will be added to the low-cost train service between Brussels and Paris from mid-April, the Belgian rail company SNCB has announced.
The train, which operates via Mons, will now stop in Saint-Quentin, in northern France, on one of its three daily journeys. This service is managed by Ouigo, the low-cost brand of the French rail company SNCF.
Introduced in December, this conventional train service takes around three hours to travel between Brussels and Paris, which is more than twice as long as the high-speed Eurostar service.
Currently, the train stops in the Belgian city of Mons and in Aulnoye-Aymeries and Creil in France. According to SNCB spokesperson Dimitri Temmerman, "From 13 April, one of the three trains in both directions will also stop in Saint-Quentin. This applies to the train departing around midday from both Brussels and Paris."
The additional stop was requested by the French railways. The overall travel time will remain approximately the same.
