Five people were arrested on Thursday evening during the match between Anderlecht and Fenerbahçe, confirmed the Brussels-Midi police zone on Friday, as reported by Het Laatste Nieuws.
The two teams faced each other at Lotto Park for the Europa League playoffs, competing for a spot in the round of 16.
Anderlecht had already lost the first leg in Istanbul last week with a decisive 3-0 scoreline.
Shortly after Thursday’s match began, Turkish team Fenerbahçe took the lead with a goal from Youssef En-Nesyri, which led to issues in the stands.
Fenerbahçe supporters were found in seats reserved for home fans, resulting in a brawl between the two sets of supporters. Police intervened to calm the situation and separate those involved.
Fights broke out between the police and rioters both inside and outside the stadium. No injuries were reported, but five people were arrested for administrative reasons, according to Brussels police.
These incidents caused a twenty-minute interruption to the match.
