Air traffic to and from Munich Airport in southern Germany is expected to be disrupted on Thursday and Friday due to a 48-hour strike called by the Ver.di trade union.

Munich Airport on Monday warned passengers that the trade union Ver.di has called on employees of several companies at the airport to go on a two-day strike for two entire days on Thursday 27 February and Friday 28 February.

"Significant impacts on traffic operations are to be expected," the airport wrote on its website. Both security and ground staff are set to participate in the strike. "Passengers are advised to check the current flight status with their airline before travelling to the airport."

The airport is one of Lufthansa’s major hubs, and many connecting flights, including from Brussels to several Asian countries, transfer here.

Ver.di aims to put pressure on wage negotiations for public services.

Meanwhile, passengers at Düsseldorf and Cologne-Bonn airports faced massive flight cancellations and delays on Monday due to a strike over public sector wage negotiations. The dispute affects over 2.5 million workers in sectors such as education, government, and airports. Unions are demanding wage increases, higher allowances for stressful jobs, and three additional paid leave days.

Here too, the airports urged passengers to check the status of their flights with their airline or tour operator before travelling to the airport.
