Two individuals were arrested in Marseille in connection with the throwing of explosive devices at the Russian consulate in France's second largest city, the local prosecutor reported on Tuesday.

Just before 8.00 a.m. on Monday, the Russian consulate in Marseille was targeted by bottle bombs followed by explosions that caused no damage or injuries.

According to the Marseille police “three 50 cl plastic soda bottles” were thrown into the consulate’s gardens, two of which exploded, generating the “detonations.”

Moscow immediately labelled the incident a “terrorist attack,” coinciding with the third anniversary of the Ukraine conflict.

The prosecutor informed French news agency AFP that the two adults in custody were arrested but provided no further details about the detentions.

Regional newspaper 'La Provence' reported that the suspects were spotted by police while participating in a pro-Ukraine demonstration on Monday evening.
