De Lijn vehicles transported 373 million people last year, a 4.5% increase compared to 2023, the Flemish public transport company announced on Wednesday during the presentation of its annual results.
In 2024, De Lijn underwent a major reorganisation of its network. The increase in passenger numbers shows these changes have been successful, according to company CEO Ann Schoubs.
The adjustments allowed De Lijn to better meet demand and make the network more efficient by providing public transport solutions where they were needed most, added Schoubs.
However, Schoubs acknowledged that the modifications led to numerous complaints at the beginning of the year.
"We received many complaints in January, February and March," she said. "They were mainly about our services. Many people were not happy with the changes. Ultimately, everything settled down. And that doesn't mean we won't make any more changes. Our network is not set in stone."
