The meteorological spring started on Saturday, and people in Belgium were immediately treated to a good dose of sunshine last weekend. Thankfully, the country can bask in the rays for the entire week ahead.

Winter is finally losing its grip on the weather, and temperatures will continue to rise for the rest of the week – giving pupils in Belgium a sunny Carnival break, according to the latest forecasts by the Royal Meteorological Institute (RMI).

While maximum temperatures on Tuesday will hover between 10°C and 12°C in most provinces, they will climb to 15°C on Wednesday.

On Thursday, temperatures will reach 17°C, with a mild southern wind for the time of year. By Friday, spring will truly be here: sunny skies, very mild winds and maximum temperatures of up to 18°C. At nighttime, however, temperatures will still be flirting with the freezing point – a combination that is called a "sawtooth wave."

The weekend will be very similar to Friday, but potentially with some more clouds on Sunday as Belgium seems to be just on the edge of a precipitation zone over France.
