Pope Francis is no longer in immediate danger, according to a medical bulletin published by the Vatican on Monday evening. However, the 88-year-old pontiff will remain in hospital “for a few more days.”
The pope was admitted to Gemelli Hospital on 14 February with double pneumonia. His condition worsened several times, and he required oxygen.
However, in recent days, the Vatican has reported a steady improvement in the pope’s health. The bulletin noted that his condition remains stable and the recent improvements have been “consolidated.”
Blood tests, clinical findings and his positive response to medication confirmed this.
The pope will need to stay in hospital for a few more days for further treatment. The Vatican has not specified when he will be discharged.
