The common union front at Flanders' public transport operator De Lijn is organising a day of action on Wednesday 12 March. As a result, only half of the company's buses and trams are running.

The previously announced strike at De Lijn is causing massive disruption as expected. The company confirmed to Belga News Agency that around half of all the buses and trams normally running in the region are cancelled (49%).

"De Lijn has, as always, developed an alternative service," the company wrote on its website. The biggest disruption can be felt in the Flemish cities of Antwerp and Ghent, where only three in ten buses and trams are running. On the coast, only one in three coastal trams is running.

Services offered by several subcontractors (external companies that run routes on behalf of De Lijn) will also be disrupted.

Passengers are advised to check the route planner on the website or app to see if their bus or tram will be running or consult the real-time information on the bus and tram stops page.

"Trips that are not running do not appear in the route planner. On the stops pages, the trips that are not running are indicated with 'does not run'." De Lijn noted that passengers may see slight differences between the advance notice and the reality on the day of the action.
