Brussels Mobility is starting its 2025 asphalting programme in Brussels this weekend. Works will be carried out to resurface damaged roads.
Once the weather improves, the agency for mobility starts its maintenance schedule with asphalting work to repair and improve public highways, outgoing Brussels Mobility Minister Elke Van den Brandt (Groen) said.
"Roads and cycle paths that are in good condition, safe and comfortable, are the best way to ensure safety for everyone," she said. "The many hours and nights that the workers put in will also enable us to work on certain areas where traffic can be managed even better." The repairs in 2025 will require €10 million, a similar amount to previous years.
The worksites are generally carried out at night and at weekends to avoid disrupting traffic. The aim is to plan as many worksites as possible so that entire sections of the road can be resurfaced, rather than working on an ad hoc basis for small repairs.
"We have really optimised asphalting operations in recent years, not only in terms of the quality of execution but also by making small improvements to the treated roads where possible (safety, traffic islands, cycle paths)," Dimitri Strobbe, Brussels Mobility Director of the Maintenance Department.
What roads will be affected?
The first asphalting work of the year starts this weekend on Boulevard Saint-Michel in Etterbeek. The lanes towards Cambre, between Boileau and Rue de l'Escadron will be resurfaced.
Other roadworks will follow every weekend and school holiday, such as Chaussée de Mons (Anderlecht), Boulevard du Midi (City of Brussels/ Anderlecht), Avenue Jaspar (Saint-Gilles), Avenue d'Auderghem (Etterbeek), Avenue de la Reine (between City of Brussels and Schaerbeek), Chaussée de Louvain in Schaerbeek and Chaussée d'Alsemberg in Saint-Gilles.
As soon as the precise dates of the asphalting operations are confirmed, the worksites will be announced by local information/signs on the roads.

To verify that the asphalting work is being carried out properly by the contractors, Brussels Mobility is stepping up its inspections through various measures, including on-site inspections while the new surface is being laid and post-works inspection to verify that the asphalt layer is optimal.
The asphalting programme will continue until the autumn.
