A magnitude 4.7 earthquake followed by a magnitude 3.8 aftershock has shaken the southeastern Italian region of Apulia.
The Italian Institute for Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) reported the tremors, while the US Geological Survey (USGS) reported a magnitude 5.0 earthquake followed by a magnitude 4.0 aftershock.
According to the USGS, the first earthquake occurred at 8:37 p.m. local time at a depth of 8.7 kilometres, with its epicentre in the Adriatic Sea, 15 kilometres from Lesina in the province of Foggia.
The second earthquake struck at 9:00 p.m., at a depth of 15.7 kilometres, with its epicentre 10 kilometres from San Nicandro Garganico, also in Foggia Province.
The tremors were felt in larger cities such as Bari and Foggia, as well as neighbouring regions.
No damage or casualties have been reported, according to the fire brigade.
The region often experiences seismic activity. On the night of Thursday to Friday, and on Friday, earthquakes were recorded around Naples and the Campi Flegrei, an area within the caldera of a supervolcano.
