Belgian actress Emilie Duquenne (Rosetta, Close) has died at the age of 43.
Her family and agent reported the news to the French press agency AFP. Duquenne passed away from complications of a rare cancer at the Gustave Roussy hospital in Paris.
In 2023, Duquenne revealed that she had been diagnosed with adrenocortical carcinoma. According to the Gustave Roussy hospital, this is a rare tumour that occurs in one to two people per million annually.
Emilie Dequenne, a distinguished actress, has deeply impacted cinema in Belgium and internationally.
Belgium’s Minister-President of the French Community of Belgium (Federation Wallonia-Brussels) and Minister of Culture, Elisabeth Degryse, announced the news on Monday morning.
Minister Degryse expressed her sorrow over the news.
"It is with sadness that I learn of Emilie Dequenne’s passing after her brave battle with illness. Through the significant roles she undertook during her career, she touched us, made us laugh, and made us think," she stated in a release.
